Bronze Star

The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the Army of the United States after 6 December 1941, distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, in connection with military operations against an armed enemy; or while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.

T5 Victor R. Nelson. Bronze Star

T5 Victor R. Nelson , (Army Serial No 36517725), Parachute Infantry, United States Army, for meritorious service in action. On 6 June 1944 near, Hiesville, France, Private First Class Nelson and three enlisted men, upon discovering their regimental commander unable to move as a result of a parachute landing injury, elected to protect him against enemy forces who were searching for parachutists. These three men repulsed an attack of 26 of the enemy, killing 10,wounding 8, and capturing the balance. His conduct was in accordance with the highest standards of the military service

T5 Demetrius B. Anagnostis. Bronze Star

T5 Demetrius B. Anagnostis,( Army Serial No 42062115), Parachute Infantry, while serving with the army of the United States, distinguished himself by heroic achievement. On * * * the enemy launched a strong attack on his company in the vicinity of * * * . During the initial stages of this attack, the fire from enemy tanks and artillery destroyed radio and wire communications with the company command post and mortar positions, rendering it difficult to coordinate fire on the enemy infantry. Technician 5th grade Anagnostis voluntarily left the security of his foxhole and attempted to locate and repair the break in the wire line. Before reaching the break, he was pinned down by enemy fire from a machine gun which had penetrated the flank. By creeping and crawling for approximately seventy five yards , he gained a position from which he killed the machine gun crew with fire from his M1-rifle. He then repaired the wire lines which were vitally needed in repelling the enemy attack. The personal bravery, tenacity of purpose, and fortitude displayed by technician fifth grade Anagnostis were in accordance with the highest standards of the military service.
