M2 D-Ring Helmet

This Helmet was a spin off of the standard M1 infantry helmet. The original M1 was found to be inadequate for use by the airborne troops. The M1  was modified by given half-moon loops to allow more movement of the web straps. An extra piece of strap was added to the web strap at the D-bail and a snap was put on to keep the liner and the metal pot together. Y-straps and buckles where added to the liner to support a leather chin cup. The early liner webbing was made of a blue/gray material. The liner itself was constructed  of a thick cardboard covered with a satin like material. These early liners are extremely hard to find. This example does not have the cardboard liner but  does have a early 2nd pattern  fiber liner.
